Hello Golden Bears! My name is Justin Sayarath and I am your current ASUC Executive Vice President. I have served our Cal Community in variety of capacities including Vice President of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, the Assistant Vice President of Programming for the Interfraternity Council, the Managing Editor for Caliber Magazine, a CalSO Counselor, and a Senator in the ASUC.
I have come to love Cal because of what students do. The minute that you walk down Sproul, students are the first to approach you with some big idea or some great event that they are plan on doing. It might be an acapella show, a service project, a show of political activism, or a Greek life recruitment drive, but it’s all these things that make our university so great. This year as your Executive Vice President, I will strive to make these great things more of a reality for students.

Hey Cal! My name is Oren Friedman and I am incredibly excited to serve our campus as the Chief of Staff for the Office of the Executive Vice President. I am a third year history major from Santa Monica and have been active on our campus as an executive officer in Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, a graduate of the Cal Leadership Institute, and the External Affairs Vice President for the Interfraternity Council. I began working with Student Action in the fall of 2011 as Justin Sayarath’s campaign manager while helping with multiple senate campaigns as well.
I am eager for this year to begin as it will be pivotal in shaping the future of our campus as Eshleman Hall is deconstructed and Lower Sproul is redeveloped. Our Goals This Year in EVP
1) INCREASING STUDENT PRODUCTIVITY BY EXPANDING TECHNOLOGICAL SERVICES
Campus websites and technology are difficult to navigate. I will ensure the implementation of the CalCentral website to consolidate Telebears, Bearfacts, and bSpace. I will fight to increase the quality of Airbears and increase its range to work within a three-block radius of campus. I will also videocast ASUC Senate meetings and student group training sessions so students can engage with the ASUC at their own convenience.
2) DEVELOPING AND REVAMPING RESOURCES FOR STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
I will create a comprehensive resource guide detailing all ASUC, campus, and corporate funding options so students do not have to hunt for their resources. I will work to revamp the campus’ classroom reservation process so that student organizations get the space they need in a timely manner. I will also streamline the senate funding process by consolidating forms and expanding CalLink as a student group resource.
3) LEVERAGING COMMERCIAL SERVICES IN STUDENT LIFE
Running a student organization can be expensive. As EVP I will leverage our buying power so that students receive discounts at local venues and businesses. I will work with on-campus businesses so that student groups can hold fundraisers and collaborative programs with our campus vendors. I will also invest in student start-up businesses so that students’ great ideas receive the time and resources needed to flourish.

The office of the Executive Vice President not only serves as the primary manager of all ASUC internal operations such as space allocations and charing of the senate, but also serves to develop quality student life. This year your ASUC Executive Vice President’s Office will seek to serve you by developing quality resources for our student organizations and students such as redeveloping our websites like Telebears, Bearfacts, Bspace, CalMail, Classroom Reservations, and other websites, by working with the Operational Excellence Initiative Team to create a one-stop shop of student services like the Registrar, Billing and Payment Services, and Financial Aid, by providing our student organizations with discounts at local businesses and ensuring that they know what campus resources are at their disposal, by implementing quality programs so that students appreciate the value of attending one of the best public institutions in the world, and by facilitating the largest transition in student history as student groups move from Eshleman Hall into Hearst Gym and Annex as we start a $223 million construction project to revitalize the center of Student Life: Lower Sproul.
This is a year of momentous change for students, and I can assure that your ASUC Executive Vice President will ensure that these changes will parallel and benefit the hardworking, unrelenting, and creative nature of Cal students.
