Senator Emily Chen

Hi Cal! My name is Emily Chen and I am an international student from Bangkok, Thailand.  This year is my second year at Berkeley and I am studying Mechanical Engineering with an intended minor in Computer Science.

I grew up playing a lot of basketball as a point guard, and classical music on the cello, and I am also a big fan of food and music.  I am really excited about this upcoming year, and am honored to have this opportunity to serve our student body.  GO BEARS!!

Senator Chen's Goals

1) INCREASING SUPPORT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND CULTURAL GROUPS
The international student community is growing rapidly, but support for us is still lacking.  I will establish programs that our community and cultural groups can all benefit from through unity and funding. Furthermore, I will work to implement international CalSO programs in different countries to better educate and guide new students coming to Cal.

2) INCREASING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AND SUSTAINABILITY
Environmental sustainability is currently a huge and important challenge. I will work with different environmental groups on campus to implement collaborative programs in order to increase the presence of environmental groups in Cal, and make Cal more environmentally sustainable.

3) FURTHERING TELEBEARS AND DECALS DEVELOPMENT
Around 3000-4000 students take DeCals each semester, and I will work to increase students’ learning opportunities by providing DeCals with more funding and grant opportunities.  Additionally, I will create a “DeCal Expo” where students and facilitators present their DeCals together in an exhibition. I will also establish a taskforce to improve Telebears to improve the student experience.
