Senator Rafi Lurie

Whatsup Cal! My name is Rafi Lurie and I’m honored to be serving as one of your ASUC Senators for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year!

I was born in London and moved to San Diego when I was about two years old. I have two younger brothers and an amazing mom and dad! I am a current sophomore at Cal. I am a brother in the Delta Chi Fraternity and am very involved with the Jewish community at Cal. I am looking forward to an awesome year!

Senator Lurie's Goals

1) MEAL POINT EXPANSION
There are numerous eateries on and around campus that only accept Cal-1 Debit Cards. I will work to expand the reach of meal points to both local and campus eateries, so that students on meal plans can enjoy greater benefits. In addition, I will expand restaurant options at Cal by working to bring food carts to campus and ensuring the vendors in the new Lower Sproul meet the needs of our student body.

2) INTERDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION
Students at Cal have so many good ideas, but there aren’t many opportunities on campus for students across disciplines to collaborate on these creative ideas. I will help create a forum where all students with innovative ideas can come together, work on interdisciplinary projects, and make them a reality. Cal students should have the opportunity to work collaboratively inside and outside the classroom.

3) INCREASED JEWISH COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
Hillel and the Jewish Student Union are both amazing resources for Jewish students at Cal, but only a small percentage of Jewish students are actually involved with the Jewish community. As an ASUC Senator, I will engage the Jewish student population at Berkeley to increase participation with Hillel and the JSU. I will also work to foster relationships between Jewish students and other campus communities.
