Senator George Kadifa
Hey Cal! My name is George Kadifa and I am a current Senator with Student Action in the ASUC. I’m a life long Bay Areaer, I was born in San Francisco, grew up in Palo Alto, and now go to school at Berkeley.
I’m a Political Economy major and I hope to go to Law School in the future. During my three years at Berkeley, my curiosity has driven me to involve myself in many different communities including those devoted to sports, activism, politics, international relations, culture, and Greek life.
I understand that the strength of our university is its diversity and that we can only deal with the problems facing our university if all opinions are valued and engaged in the conversation. As a Senator I hope to ensure that this campus stays true to its heritage of promoting free and substantive discussion of issues and allowing all voices to be heard.
Senator Kadifa's Goals
1) ENSURING ADMINISTRATION AND POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY
The Free Speech Movement dictated that students should always feel safe expressing themselves on this campus. The events of last November stand in direct violation of that history. I will ensure that ongoing investigations of these events are completed, and work with the new administration to hold campus and UCPD accountable for their actions.
2) PROMOTING AND PROTECTING THE SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES
As a Senator, I will bring visibility to the cuts that Social Science and Humanities departments are facing. I will emphasize the importance of these disciplines in creating a robust, analytic, and engaged society. I will explore alternative sources of funding for these departments by doing outreach to alumni for support.
3) IMPROVING HEALTH AND WELLNESS ON CAMPUS
Berkeley ranks 11th in the Pac-12 for gym space- I will promote health and wellness by trying to create more space for students. I will explore proposals to turn the Berkeley Art Museum or Hearst Gym into new Health and Wellness facilities and other ways to improve campus health and wellness by engaging students through forums.
