Senator Rosemary Hua

My name is Rosemary Hua, and I’m from San Jose, CA! I’m a rising 3rd year at Cal, double majoring in Business Administration and Political Science. I love running, playing soccer, singing, and dancing!

I started dancing in college and I’m blessed and honored to be a part of Abba Modern, AFX Dance, Danceworx, and The [M]ovement. This semester, I’m really excited to serve the Cal community! Some of my biggest goals are to host two large events: a Tele-BEARS hack-a-thon which seeks to program an updated registration interface and a faith-focused conference which caters to the Catholic/Christian undergraduate and graduate students at Cal. I am also passionate about representing and empowering the dance community, especially during this time of Lower Sproul’s renovation.

Senator Hua's Goals

1) FIGHTING FOR DANCE SPACE
Next year, Lower Sproul’s renovation will displace 300+ dancers who use the space to practice.  I will fight for a permanent dance space in the RSF and to increase hours of operation in Hearst Gym. I will also create a Dance Coalition to amplify a collective voice about issues pertaining to the dance community.

2) FIXING TELE-BEARS
UC Berkeley’s class registration system is counter-intuitive and extremely outdated.  I will organize a hack-a-thon at which engineering and business students can work together to program an updated interface for class registration by integrating the online class schedule and the Tele-BEARS interface, and design a more fair distribution of registration dates and times.

3) UNIFYING THE NEWMAN COMMUNITY AND INCREASING CAMPUS PRESENCE
The Catholic community at Cal is diverse and dispersed among campus. I will unify the Catholics at Cal by creating an interactive smartphone application designed to inform students about upcoming religious and social events. I will also work to create an interfaith conference aimed to break stereotypes and ease tensions between different faiths.
